10 days to better sleep with yoga and meditation
Are you struggling to fall asleep at night? Do you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night unable to get back to sleep? Do you often wake up in the morning feeling like you didn't sleep at all?
You're not alone.
One in three people experiences at least mild insomnia at some point in their lives. But, when poor sleep is a chronic problem it can take a toll on your health and your quality of life. People who miss out on sleep are more susceptible to disease, make more mistakes at school and work, and have less energy to do the things they love.
I suffered from insomnia for many years. It was the first symptom of my chronic fatigue syndrome to show up, and it's the first challenge that comes back for me whenever I'm going through a hard or stressful time in my life. I know what it's like to move through each day in a haze and how much it can zap the joy out of life.
Yoga and meditation can help improve the quality of your sleep
It's been over 10 years since I've been practicing yoga. Before I started my yoga practice I was on heavy medication to help me sleep. After just a few months of doing yoga several times a week, I was able to come off the pills. In the last 10 years, I've never had to go back to sleep medication.
This is because yoga helps to balance the nervous system and relax your mind and body before bed.
Good sleep is one of the most significant indicators of good health
People who sleep, undisturbed, for at least seven hours a night have stronger immune systems, more energy during the day, make fewer mistakes, and have more creative ideas.
